GIANNI VERSACE

Born in Calabria 1946, at the tip of the boot which forms the map of Italy. His mother, a dressmaker to prominent families this time, his father a salesman. After breaking off his study of achitecture in the early seventies, he left his hometown in order to work as an independant fashion designer for different Italian manufacturers in Milan. In 1978 Gianni Versace began to present his designs under his own name. He combined the most opposed artistic styles, opulence, great colors, patterns from diverse cultures and knew absolutely no taboos. Versace's attitude: "For me, there is no too much!" His garments adorned with the head of Medusa, which was and still is the brand's trademark and company logo- a symbol of lust, glamour and excess. Versace soon developed into the opposition of Giorgio Armani, who was already well known in the fashion scene. "We have absolutely nothing to say to each other!", Versace once said about his rival. The big shock in 1997: Gianni Versace was shot leaving his villa in Miami Beach. His favorite niece Allegra became his principal heir and gained the status of the most influential woman in Italien fashion. The creative legacy was inherited by Gianni Versace's muse and sister Donatella, who still has her hands on the brand's designs. "My brother was a genius. I am not. But Gianni was the best teacher I could have had."

Another day at school. See my today's look.
In consideration of the last and coming days, I allowed myself to spend a little money yesterday. Fortunately I got hold of this beautiful pullover in dark blue with sweet cotton dots. I also bought a beautiful and huge gemstone ring. How do you like it? And tell me: what was your latest capture? Shopping is so much fun.

JIL SANDER

The first step toward realizing a vision: getting rid of German names. Heidemarie Jiline Sander easily became Jil Sander, experienced textile engineer, and openened her first fashion boutique 1968 in Hamburg (at the age of 25). At first, the cool blonde German ordered exclusively fashion from Paris, when in 1973 she released her first collection. The theme: self-confident minimalism. Her debut at Paris Fashion Week in 1975 was badly ignored by the press- but Jil Sander was not to be deterred. She moved to Milan, stayed loyal to her style until justified by success. Jil Sander founded her fashion house in 1978 and achieved high demand from the mid-eighties on. Women took over managerial roles in business and got uniformed in Jil Sander's perfectly cut pantsuits, neutral colors, slender trench coats. The money she made was promptly invested in huge flagship stores, like in Tokyo and New York. The idea of simplicity as luxury took hold. The main problems began in 1999, when Jil Sander sold the majorty of her shares to the Prada Group and just didn't got the new company's strategy. She parted ways with the Italian luxury group and made a clean break in 2004, after returning as head designer in 2003. For nearly six years Jil Sander gave up business, when in 2009 she had her big comeback as the new creative director of the Japanese fashion chain Uniqlo. Her present aim: "to incorporate first-class quality in a brand with democratic prices". Always in the spirit of her former vision.

CALVIN KLEIN

Calvin Richard Klein was born in the Bronx in 1942. His grandmother soon taught him to sew and so made up his way to the fashion scene. Calvin Klein studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology for two years, when he started designing for Dan Misstein, a large American coat manufacturer. At the age of twenty-six, he finally realized his dream of independance, starting with 10,000$ capital. Over the years, Klein found his own striking style: high quality on simple lines. The American press reacted by calling him "Supreme Master of Minimalism". Klein was immediately succesful. He broke taboos and provocated the fashion industry: naked skin, brand visibility. Simple white cotton underwear for men, attached a plain stretch waistband imprinted the brand's name. The reaction: worldwide hysteria and mass consumption. But not because of the product. People now, wore underwear as a status symbol. And this hype still persists. In 2003 Calvin Klein sold his empire, signing on as a consultant until 2011. We'll see what comes next.

Great evening with my sis. New leather dress, ZARA heels and sequined bag. Click below!
Yesterday evening, after the first hot day this year, my sister Jack and I went partying in Hamburg City. The hotel we visited is called East. It's a very luxurious and noble one. We drank cocktails, chilled outside and listened to the lounge music. Felt like vacation! I really enjoyed getting dressed up and finally to take out the ZARA heels I bought like a year ago and didn't even wore them yet... But they are so comfortable! Something else: YEEES, we're one hundred! Thank you so much guys. Hope you still enjoy reading!

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD

Born in 1941, Westwood (originally "Vivien Isabel Swire") moved to Harrow, London, at the age of seventeen. First studying at the Harrow School of Art, Westwood decided reskilling and became a, as it is said, very committed primary school teacher. But her creativity and radical sympathies encouraged her taking another step forward, thus Westwood opened her first boutique 1970 in London. Several name changes and different themes later, Westwood's boutique Seditionaries became the nucleus of punk. Her first collections were mainly based on ready-to-wear fashion- pimped with provocative slogans, patterns, stripes and sometimes tored to pieces. All decorated with steel chains, safety pins, rivets and zippers. Westwood was now teaching her customers, adopting a look which expressed one's frustration with unemployment and lack of educational possibilities. Next step would be not to only seek inspiration on England's streets, but in the museum. She began taking historical costumes to pieces in order to understand how they were made. Complex creations resulted and Westwood presented them at Paris Fashion Week in the mid-eighties. Today, the British designer is known as the "mother of punk". Characteristic of her creations are items from the history of fashion, well combined with a provocative accent or topical themes. Her trademarks became high platform heels, tweed fabrics and old-fashioned, but at the same time very feminine cuts.
